Animal Fencing for Dogs, Horses and more

Our client required a protective barrier that could keep dogs and even horses safely enclosed.

To cater to their needs, we opted for full mesh metal farm gates coupled with post and rail paddock fencing that had UC4 posts ( what are UC4 posts? ) and European 50mm weld mesh. This is a perfect combination for animal fencing for dogs, horses and more.

Not only does this provide the necessary safety, but it also blends well with the property’s aesthetics. We were thrilled to execute this project and received positive feedback from our satisfied customers.

What's different aspects of fencing arise when animal safety is involved?

When putting up fencing to keep in dogs and horses, and other animals, several considerations are crucial to ensure the safety and security of both the animals and the property. Here are some important factors to keep in mind:

Height of the fence

The height of animal fencing for dogs, horses is crucial when it comes to keeping them. The height of the fence should be at least 5 feet for horses, and for dogs, the height should be tall enough that they cannot jump over it.

Material of the fence

The material of the fence is also significant, and it is essential to choose a sturdy and durable material that can withstand the impact of the animals. Popular options for horse and dog fencing include wood, metal, and PVC.

Type of fence

The type of fence also matters. For horses, post-and-rail fencing with closely spaced rails or mesh wire fencing is a popular choice. For dogs, chain link fences or solid panel fences that block their line of sight are recommended.  This option is more expensive but what a dog can’t see, they can’t get excited about!

Gates

Gates are an essential part of any nimal fencing for dogs and horses project, and it is crucial to ensure that they are secure and sturdy enough to withstand the weight and force of the animals.

Visibility

It is important to consider the visibility of the fence, especially for horses, to avoid the risk of them running into the fence and getting injured. Visibility can be enhanced by using white tape or PVC piping on the top rail of the fence.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is essential to keep the fence in good condition and prevent any potential safety hazards. The fence should be inspected regularly for any damage, and repairs should be carried out promptly.

What are UC4 posts?

UC4 posts are treated timber posts that have been pressure-treated with preservatives to protect them from decay and insect attack. The "UC4" rating refers to the level of treatment that the posts have received, with UC4 being a higher level of treatment than UC3.

UC4 posts are typically used for applications where the posts will be in direct contact with the ground or water, such as for fencing, decking, or landscaping projects. The treatment process involves subjecting the timber to high-pressure injections of preservatives, which penetrate deep into the wood fibers to provide long-lasting protection against decay and insect infestation.

The result is a more durable and long-lasting post that can withstand the harsh outdoor elements and resist rot and decay for many years.

Building animal fencing for dogs, horses can present some challenges that need to be taken into account to ensure the safety and security of the animals and the property. Here are some challenges that might arise:

  1. Terrain: The terrain can be a significant challenge when building a fence. Uneven or hilly terrain can make it challenging to install fence posts, and extra care must be taken to ensure the fence is level and secure.

  2. Soil type: The type of soil can also pose a challenge. Soil that is too rocky or hard can make it difficult to dig post holes, while soil that is too soft or sandy may not provide adequate support for the fence posts. In this case there are methods we can employ to achieve success, such as use concrete.

  3. Vegetation: Trees, bushes, and other vegetation can also be a challenge. They may need to be cleared before the fence can be installed, and their roots may interfere with post holes.

  4. Animal behavior: The behavior of the animals can also be a challenge. Some animals may try to dig under or jump over the fence, requiring additional measures such as burying wire mesh or adding a top rail to prevent escape.

  5. Local regulations: Local regulations and zoning laws may also pose a challenge. These laws may dictate the type of fence that can be installed, its height and placement, and other requirements that need to be taken into account during the installation process.
